Despite Wanderers exiting the FA Cup with Budweiser following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, Neil Danns hopes that the efforts shown by the players against the Bluebirds will prove to be a platform for the team in their league exploits.

Fraizer Campbell’s second half strike ensured the Premier League outfit’s progression into the fifth round of the competition at the expense of the Whites, but the midfielder admitted that he and his teammates will be taking confidence from their display against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

“It was disappointing because we’ve gone out there and matched them today and it’s just one mistake that’s killed us off,” the 31-year-old said following the final whistle.

“Apart from that, I thought we were just as much in that game as they were and we may well have gone on to nick it.

“We can’t dwell on it though – Andy Lonergan has been fantastic for us in recent weeks and every player makes mistakes, but we have to take the positives from the performance into the next game, especially after last week.

“Our bread and butter is in the league and we’ll be taking some positives from this performance.”

With trips to face Queens Park Rangers and Ipswich next up for the Whites, Danns explained that the team aren’t fazed by the task in front of them and are confident of ruffling a few feathers over the coming week.

“If we can take this sort of performance into Tuesday’s game, then I’m sure we can be a match for QPR – they are flying at home in the league so it’s going to be tough, but every game is hard in the Championship.

“We’re going to go there like we go into any game – looking for three points.”

He added: “After that we go to Ipswich who are flying as well at the moment – it’s two tough games, but that’s what it’s all about.

“If you need games to get reactions from, I think that they’re two where we can show a reaction and hopefully we can get some positive results.”
