Manager Dougie Freedman believes the Whites’ clever link-up play against Doncaster was the key factor in their 3-0 victory at the Reebok Stadium.

Goals from Joe Mason, Andre Moritz and Neil Danns sealed maximum points for Wanderers in their penultimate home game of the calendar year.

Alongside the positive result, Bolton also put in an excellent passing display, with Brazilian midfielder Moritz causing the Doncaster backline problems up until the 86th minute before he was withdrawn as Freedman’s final change to a standing ovation.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Freedman admitted he was pleased to see his team bounce back in the correct manner following two successive defeats.

“It was a very good performance,” he said. “We played very well but I am pleased with the way we bounced back from two defeats.

“It is quite hard to take defeats, especially when those defeats come at home so to bounce back in the way that we did is very pleasing.

“We need to have that bounce back ability in this division because every game is tough. They threw on a couple of difficult aerial threats but I thought we coped with the pressure very well to keep a clean sheet.

“I have watched Doncaster a few times this season and they are a very good side but I thought it was our day. We controlled possession and we created a number of chances.

“We looked sharp and we took our chances at the right time which always helps, but overall it is a credit to the lads.”

From the first whistle, Bolton showed their dominance in possession and looked a threat everytime they went forward, with Moritz, the returning Chris Eagles and young striker Joe Mason all asking questions of the Doncaster defence.

The manager continued: “The link up play between the midfield and attack was superb. Andre Moritz is a very intelligent player and today we saw his confidence was growing throughout. He was excellent and Andre is a lovely lad around the dressing room.

“We worked very well as a team and I thought today we looked like a Bolton team that was on top form.

“The big question now and the challenge is for the team to get some consistency. If we can and build momentum then we can climb the league table very quickly. It is a good day and we have sent the fans home happy.”
