Following a break in domestic fixtures last weekend, Jay Spearing is confident that the Whites are ready to continue their fine form of late against Watford this Saturday.

With Wanderers currently on a seven-match unbeaten run, the midfielder admitted that confidence is high amongst the squad ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.

"The last couple of results have been massive and we’ve picked up a lot of confidence from the past few games in terms of the way we’ve been playing," he said. "Saturday’s going to be a tough game, but we’re ready for it.

"Away from home, we’re going to places and we know exactly how the gaffer wants us to play and as a team we gel together quite quickly – as long as we play the football that we know we can, we can cause any team away from home problems and hopefully we can carry that on against Watford."

Having played in both league meetings against the Hornets last season, the 24-year-old explained that the team are more than aware of the threat which Watford pose, despite the Hertfordshire outfit’s drop in form in recent weeks.

"Watford are a very good side – Gianfranco Zola’s got them playing some very good football and the system they play is very tough to get used to," he said. "We want to stop that happening and put them under pressure to pull the game in our favour, so fingers crossed we can kick on straight from the off.”

With the Whites looking for a third consecutive victory on the road following wins over Birmingham and Bournemouth in recent weeks, Spearing paid tribute to the club’s supporters who have followed the team on their travels so far this season.

“We’ve always known that the fans will be behind us and the boys always feel the confidence from them - it was just a matter of time before we started proving to them exactly what we were all about.”

He added: “We’ve started doing that now and they’ve come away in force like at Bournemouth and it gives the lads a lot of confidence knowing that they’ll be there in their numbers again this weekend.”
